Dear friends;

At the moment « E-mail password » is a valid action at « locked database wikis » [[special:Userlogin]] pages.

All looks normally / as usual but as soon as users try to log in with the password received together with the email they can get confused because they are unable to log in.

Only if they try to remember the passwords they have used in the past they might be lucky and log in and then see the « Database locked » ( [[MediaWiki:Readonly]] ) message.

Personally I see no general solution because there can be various reasons for locking a database.

The most informative solution would be to provide information about the database status and available actions.

Because the creation of new accounts is not possible / permitted one could be notified that neither the change of user preferences (wich includes change of the password) is possible / permitted . Such a message / an action should suppress sending the email with a useless new password.
