Clicking "Save page" on a new page multiple times creates the page multiple times

Description:
I haven't found this problem listed here, so I post this bug message.

If you create a new page and click "Save page" multiple times, and the servers
are too slow, then the page is created multiple times.

In august 2004, I announced the problem at wikipedia-l:
http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikipedia-l/2004-August/016566.html

Since that time I am creating lists of doubled entries in some WPs. At de: they
are listed and removed after every new database dump (there are around ten of
them per week), but I think it is necessary to prevent the duplicates from being
created.

In newly created wikis, there is a unique index which prevents this.

Older wikis have not all been updated, however...

Note:

http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Especial:Allpages/%C3%87
shows both:

  • uppercase and lowercase c-cedil
  • uppercase and lowercase n-tilde

Because of the capitalisation of the titles only the record with first character
in uppercase can be shown.

I have no clue what is happening here. Reinhardt

I guess these articles are relics from the pre-utf8-era.

At the german WP we had articles starting with lower case ö (o-umlaut) and µ
(greek mu). These articles had to be renamed by a developer, so we could merge
their content with the other articles.

Unique index was applied to old wikis a while ago. Closing as FIXED.

Bug 2080 reported recent duplicate articles at pt.wiktionary.org.

The schema update in the MediaWiki 1.5 upgrade forces the addition of the proper index creation
which prevents this. Any remaining wikis with bad indexes will be fixed when the upgrade goes live
later this month.

Resolving as FIXED.
