Yes, you can. Go to http://zh-min-nan.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Allmessages
and translate all the messages. (You have to be admin to be able to edit those
messages)

Us developpers not speaking Chinese, we are sorry that we can't assist you in
doing so.

Once you're done with translating it, we can generate a Language file from your
translations and include it into the mediawiki source code. Reopen this bug when
you are done.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually virtually all messages that could have been translated were translated.
(Some maintenence strings were left untranslated as a convenience to
other-language editors.) Now that 1.4b is live, of course, we've got more
strings, many of which (but not yet all) have been translated. Since this is
more than a quality-of-life issue -- some of us not being English users -- we'll
definitely get the rest translated soon.

A-giau, I thought you translated most of these before the upgrade? Are the
translations lost forever?

Sorry for not making myself clear enough the first time round. Consider the
following:
0) I am a user who has registered and set my "interface language" option to
"zh-min-nan" in the preferences.

  1. I go to http://zh-min-nan.wikipedia.org/ and find the interface to be in English.
  2. I log in, and find the interface to be in zh-min-nan.
  3. I log out, and return to the situation in (1).

Is it not possible to make the interface language in (1) and (3) the same as
that in (2), namely, zh-min-nan? How does MediaWiki get its messages in
zh-min-nan in situation (2)? Thanks.

Henry and Pochung reports:

I was trying to comment on the about but I don't know how to login to
the bugzilla...
Do you understand what is going on?

No. But I can confirm that as of today it is *sometimes* not possible
to switch languages while logged in (this is after trying to clear the
browser cache). While you're stuck in English, I was stuck in
zh-min-nan. Either this functionality (or cache?) is unexpectedly
broken or the devs have been tinkering with it. Just now...

Logging out reverts the language to English.

Logging in again brings about the last selected interface (de). But the
layout is now Classic. After re-selecting zh-min-nan and Monobook, I
was able to obtain both -- this time.

This seems to have been solved. Can someone else confirm?

The problem (see comment#4) no longer occurs. That's great.
