IE6: login/personal info line on top-right of the page slides under Wikipedia logo on top-left
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: traroth

Description:
Some times (but not every time), the line at the top-right corner of the page,
with the "Traroth Ma page de discussion Préférences Liste de suivi Mes
contributions Déconnexion" "Créer un compte ou se connecter" (in french) slides
under the logo at the top left corner. It's mainly an aesthetic problem, but
with depending to screen resolution, it could become difficult to get connected,
because it's impossible to click on the connection link.
I saw the problem only with Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.

Not if it happens on Wikimedia web-sites, as the product selection suggests.

On which wiki does the problem happen?

Happened on french Wikipedia, with Internet Explorer 6. Dont' remember if it
happened on other projects/languages.
No error message
Various pages, the main page, for example.
I detected no special pattern. Sometimes it happens (Now I use only Firefox, it
no more happens)

I happened again just for a few minutes, with Wikicommons, still with IE6 under Windows XP + SP2

Have a look at the duplicate Bug 5907. There is a detailed analysis what is not responsible for that
bug and which HTML/CSS code probably makes that trouble in IE...

There is one further thing I noticed:

If you go logged out at Special:Userlogin in Wikimedia Commons the log in link in the upper right
corner does not jump in IE. The only difference I could see in the relevant HTML code was
class="active". This class declares some text highlighting and such but I have tried several "fixes"
with text highlighting with no sucess...

I'm going to to take a guess, and if someone's already verified this, please,
ignore me. But looking in "/skins-1.5/common/IEFixes.js", there is a function
called "relativeforfloats();" that takes place on event "onreadystatechange".

This function changes all absolute divs to relative divs in the bodyContent
area. Is this possibly what's causing it?

The problem is that I tested IE with deactivated scripting (see Bug 5907) and still had the bug. So
we'd need to assume that IE uses scripting somehow although you did switch it of.

Adding testme. Please test with Internet Explorer 8 and note the result here.

tested on IE 6/7. works for me.
