Namespace filters disappeared from "Special:Contributions" page
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: nyenyec

Description:
It seems that after the upgrade to MediaWiki 1.5beta1 I am no longer able to see
the filter on the top of the Special:Contributions.

This means that I cannot choose to see the contributions of a user in a specific
namespace.

Filtering by namespace was a feature that was present before and it's important
for the the following reasons (among others):

  • In some wikis, such as de.wikipedia.org, the voting rights of a given user is

tied to a given number of edits (e.g. 200) in the article namespace. Without the
form, it takes forever to count edits in a specific namespace by hand.

  • Filtering only to image contributions is always useful if for example one

wants to see all the images they uploaded.

  • Filtering to User:talk pages is useful when determining whether an editor's

attitude is civil enough fot them to become a sysop.

  • etc.

Version: 1.5.x
Severity: normal

Kate removed it:

What is the reason? And will it be re-added?

Thanks, nyenyec

She claimed it was too slow, in my opinion she should have just disabled it if
miser mode was on as we do for the rest of our heavy special pages rather than
ripping it out completely.

Thanks for the quick answer. Can it be re-added and if necessary made optional?
At least for smaller Wikis? Please?

Kate´s editcount is nice to have, anyway, but it´s not an adequate compensation for the previous feature which is missed by countless users. The common usage of Special:Contributions was to find not just a naked number but certain edits in different namespaces.
There are many complaints about the current form with its limited possibilities and small value, so please re-add this option as soon as possible.

I used the removed feature frequently and it was very useful for my wikipedia work. I'm not very
happy with the idea of having to use an extra tool all the time for something that worked within
MediaWiki before 1.5.

As simple user, I can only fall to my knees and kiss the floor before the developers to make them
readd this feature.

Thank you very much for fixing that bug. The namespace filters are really useful to
monitor your own Wikipedia work.

Wasn't when I said that.

It is now! Hooray!
