Note 1: The description of this bug probably does not properly reflect its true nature. If you can find a more precise description, please change the title.
Note 2: To alleviate any doubt:
- apostrophe = ' = U+0027
- Hebrew Letter Yod = י = U+0529
Now, the actual bug description: Go to the Hebrew Wikipedia and type "תבנית:משתמש גי" in the search box (w/o the quotes). The first few search suggestions will be reasonable:
a) "תבנית:משתמש גיל"
b) "תבנית:משתמש גיטרה"
c) "תבנית:משתמש גיל2"
d) "תבנית:משתמש גיי פרנדלי"
but the next suggestion is weird:
- "תבנית:משתמש גיינג'י" is the text displayed in the suggestions list
- "תבנית:משתמש ג'ינג'י" is the actual title of the target page
- "תבנית:משתמש ג'ינג'י" is the string that is copied to the search box if i move there with the mouse
(Numbers 2 and 3 are the same.)
To complicate things further, if you type "תבנית:משתמש גיי" into the search box, the suggestions will be:
a) "תבנית:משתמש ג'י פרנדלי" - the actual title of the target page is "תבנית:משתמש גיי פרנדלי"
b) "תבנית:משתמש ג'ימר" - the actual title of the target page is "תבנית:משתמש גיימר"
c) "תבנית:משתמש ג'יימס בונד" - the actual title of the target page is the same, but in the search suggestions the characters "ג'י" are displayed in a bold font.
This bug may or may not have something to do with the fact that the letter Yod (י) and the apostrophe (') have similar appearance. I don't think that it happens with other letters, but i might wrong.
It actually makes sense to be flexible with the apostrophe when searching, but displaying "ג'י פרנדלי" instead of "גיי פרנדלי" is definitely wrong. Although it is not a major problem, some other issue may hide behind it.
I tried to be clear with the descriptions of Hebrew characters, but if you have any problem understanding them, please contact me for further explanation.
