internal link selection resizes table
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Description:
Kubuntu Linux (Gutsy)
firefox 2.0.0.11

At the page in question (http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Study_of_Genesis/The_Fall_of_Man), there are two templates transcluded onto the page. These two templates each contain a table, and the transclusion syntax is itself embedded in a master table, used to line the two tables up.

The templates contain internal links to various pages including the page in question. In the larger table, when clicking the internal link referring to this page in question, the larger table is resized to conform to the size of the smaller table. The link should instead direct the browser to the target of the internal link (the anchor at the section label), but it doesn't. A second click on the link, however, will.

I suspect that this is a browser-specific issue, as using Konqueror doesn't duplicate the error. There is a chance, I suppose, that the issue lies within firefox itself; if that is the case, let me know and I'll submit a bug to Mozilla.

thanks for developing this incredible piece of software,

  1. What tables am I supposed to be looking at?
  1. What links am I supposed to be clicking?
  1. What is the difference between expected and actual behavior, exactly?
  1. If this is browser-specific behavior, what browser is it?

sorry, I suppose I wasn't clear in my bug report :) The two statements at the beginning of the report -

Kubuntu Linux (Gutsy)
firefox 2.0.0.11

  • were meant to detail what OS (specifically) and browser I was using. I should have stated that explicitly, sorry.
  1. the tables in question are at the top, right hand side of the page, and are labeled "Bible Tour..."
  1. The link to click is in the second table, under the second bullet (which is labeled "Man's Covering For Sin"), and is entitled "section".
  1. the expected behavior is that upon clicking the link, the browser should jump down to the section entitled "Genesis 3:7, 21 :: Faith vs. Works". The actual behavior is that the second table (the table that contains the link) resizes itself to the width of the first table.
  1. firefox 2.0.0.11 running on Kubuntu Linux (Gutsy).

that clear things up?

Confirmed in FF 2.0 on Linux and Windows.

No such problem in 3.0 beat 4 on my Mac.

Nathanael David Schmolze, is this still a problem for you? Can you still reproduce it in a somewhat more advanced version of Firefox?

No bug in Firefox 20, Chrome 26, Opera 12 or Safari 6 on my Mac. It was probably a bug on that early version of Firefox. Should this bug be kept open any longer?

No answer from reporter to comment 4 or comment 5 and no indication that this happens in recent Firefox versions. =>

Nathanael: Please feel free to reopen this report if you can provide the information asked for and if this still happens. Thanks!
