It has been brought up on the Wikinews water cooler and elsewhere on [en] Wikinews, that a mobile wap gateway, similar to http://en.wap.wikipedia.org would be useful for Wikinews. Would it be possible to create one?

The search interface would probably be of limited value to a news site; but keep in mind that templates and extensions (like DPL) aren't supported by the current gateway system. You'd need some kind of custom front page.
Hmm, Well the first thought that comes to my mind is we could use the wikinews importer bot to make a dpl in static wikicode (its used on wikipedia for some pages which copy our headlines. makes things like [[w:Portal:Current events/5/Wikinews]]). I'll ask on the wikinews water cooler for thoughts.

Please note the set-up on the wikinews end is waiting on a vote at [[n:Wikinews:Bots]] for a bot to be approved to automatically create a static version of the main page.

Well apparently the bot request on en wikinews got closed as no concencuss ( http://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=Wikinews:Bots&diff=703489&oldid=703486 ). So i guess this isn't happening.
