Please think over the use of the new word "books" instead of "collections"
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

While "collection" may not have been an optimal choice, imho "book" is not either. We have Special:ISBN, the subject matter of which are books, and there is work on its way from several groups to add enhanced ways of referencing book sources of articles which may likely end in the additions of a book: namespace, or very similar.

So as not to confuse existing printed books, or other literature, with the subject matter of this extension, I'd suggest a name referring to the "yet to be printed" aspect of extionsion:collection to be more apropriate.

Thanks for listening.

I agree as well, and some people on Village Pump Proposals were also pondering this.

books is simply confusing, because we have ISBN, wikibooks.org and the Print books. Collections was better in my opinion.

Furthermore, nearly every use of the word "book" conflicts with Wikibooks' indigienous conception of a book, and had to be replaced in the system messages. This despite that Wikibooks is the main user of the extension.

However, I /think/ the developers already discussed this and decided to use the word "book" (they must have done, since they changed it, and they wouldn't have done so without thinking it over). Can we please make sure the Collections developers are aware of this bug? They have their own bug tracker, and I don't know if they automatically get CCd or something on bugs filed here (doesn't look like it at present).

Added support@pediapress.com so their team is aware of the bug report.

I am closing this as "works for me". We spend a considerable amount of time thinking about the appropriate metaphors and names for the different part of the Extension:Collection. The current metaphor seems to work on most wikis.
