I don't think mixing documentation with contents in this case is a good idea. However, there has been talk about providing a mechanism to show the existing message documentation we already have. There is still unsolved problems that prevent implementing it right now.

I'm certainly no software expert, but what makes you feel that documentation here wouldn't be a good idea? Many of the MediaWiki: pages on the English Wikipedia, for instance, would be quite difficult to comprehend for a new user (or even an experienced one, for that matter). If we could describe the usage locally, this problem would be eliminated. All the same.

My point was about *mixing* documentation with the content. They should be separate.

Niklas, can we make documentation accessible via {{int:Messageid/qqq}}? The bug subject could be implemented then via editnotice, I guess.

Pavel, {{MediaWiki:<messageid>/qqq}} already works, but some cleanup is needed, see bug 41578.

The Wikimedia Language Engineering team has no plans to actively add this feature. Patches are welcome and will be reviewed, of course.

I'm not convinced this is a good idea. Documentation should live in the standard documentation pseudo-locale, i.e. qqq subpages, as it already does in nearly all cases. Then the issue is how to display it smartly: T43578.
