Strange font issued by Internet Explorer 8
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I visited Korean Wikiquote (http://ko.wikiquote.org) in monobook skin. All text (even in editform) is rendered in serif font. I checked MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWIki:Monobook.css and found no error.

Text rendering in modern skin was OK. but problem is monobook skin. I think Internet Explorer 8 is making error in rendering.

Microsoft Developer centre peovides the manual here -> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/cc817574.aspx I hope this page would be helpful. Thank you!

Does it work in "IE7" Compatability mode? does it work on other ko. projects such as http://ko.wiktionary.org/ or http://ko.wikipedia.org/ ? Is the serif font a monospace?

IE8 installs are known to sometimes have individual font selection problems/quirks, not something MediaWiki can do much about (except to add an IE8Fixes.css and explicity set every font, which doesn't even work for all problems). Most likely INVALID

AFAIK, the IE7 Compatability mode will always set to enable when the URL is either wikimedia.org, wikipedia.de, wikipedia.org or wiktionary.org.

see res://iecompat.dll/iecompatdata.xml for the full list of websites will always using the IE7 Compability mode.

I didn't change my font preferences. Korean wikipedia, wiktionary, wikisource is OK. but kowikibooks and kowikiquote seems to be *not* OK.

I doubt this is still an issue, as it was reported 5 years ago. Cannot reproduce.
