This is caused by the fact that the clear for thumbs is set by rtl.css and ltr.css, both of which are not included when people the printable version is selected.

Trevor, want to check status on this on Monobook & Vector?

Vector has the same problem. It does not have a definition to clear:left the image when printing/printable version.
