It seems that the indent is about 10em (the width of the left sidebar). This probably means that it is the hasLayout issue of Internet Explorer. If so, this can easily be tested by setting zoom:1 on the element (in this case the textarea).

AFAIK there is no hasLayout concept in IE8. At any rate, setting zoom:1 on the textarea (via the developer toolbar) has no effect.

Yeah been experimenting a bit more with this. It appears that on "view source", IE8 switches from IE8 mode to IE8 compatibility view. So that is where the problem is.

This affects IE7 and IE8 in "compatability mode". Not vanilla IE8.

Updating summary accordingly.

Trying IE 7.0 on Windows XP on browserstack.com , the source code box on https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&action=edit and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?action=edit&useskin=vector look fine.

Cannot reproduce, please reopen if this is still a problem.
