Posting an reply to message at Special:NewMessages breaks the view

Description

When I posted an reply at Special:NewMessages, after saving the page was reloaded, but my reply was not shown in the thread, and in addition the message I was replying to had disappeared. Moreover the other threads started looking weird. See the <s>attached</s> linked screenshot [1]. Reloading the page does not fix it properly [2].

Can you tell me exactly what's wrong with those screenshots?

I first thought that the pre-like thing was a bug, but it is intended it seems. Anyway, the real bug is that replying on Special:NewMessages doesn't show the new reply and even hides the message which was replied to.
