Keeping the global signature feature:

• Keep the signature in a user subpage so it can be edited by sysops.
• Allow blocks to reset signatures.
• Allow administrative editing of global user signatures

Rolling back the global signature feature:

• Store the at-the-time signature separately or in the wikitext.
