Liquid threads "search discussion" confuses people and doesn't work without Wikimedia's Lucene search
Open, LowPublic

Description

On wikinews we are getting some people trying to create pages of the form [[n:Al shabaab ondiscussionpage:Comments:Somali opposition group al-Shabaab to block WFP food aid]].

As far as i can tell, people go to the opinion page, [[n:Comments:Somali opposition group al-Shabaab to block WFP food aid]], see the search discussion box right beside the create a new discussion link. They assume that text box is to start a new discussion, instead of search. They enter a title, hit enter, go to search page which has the:

Create the page "Foo ondiscussionpage:Comments:Somali opposition group al-Shabaab to block WFP food aid" on this wiki!

link.

They click that, thinking thats how you enter a comment. This causes problems as thats not where we want people to create their comments.

Also seen on translatewiki.net. I would give some priority on this bug as it is annoying to clean up those pages and ask users to repost their question, or is there a better way?

I'll take this bug and apply it in redesign.

The same happened at pt.wikibooks:

Lowering priority, but feel free to raise it again.

Was this feature removed from LQT? I don't remember seeing it.

No it's not removed. You might be confused because I removed it from my sites using LQT, because it doesn't actually work and confuses people.

No, I was looking for it in the wrong place: it's just below the header of talk pages with LQT, as described by bug 37801 comment 6.

Well, at least on Portuguese Wikibooks it is really not there: bug 60691.

LiquidThreads has been replaced by StructuredDiscussions on all Wikimedia production wikis (except one, which will be done soon). It is no longer under active development or maintenance, so I'm re-classifying all open LQT tasks as "Lowest" priority.
