Description

Author: wiki

Description:
Dear Sirs,

I'd like to report the above mentioned, which is severe for watching articles and discussions about sensative issues, specially permanently attacked.
The changes by some users are shown in the watchlist and others - are not. Also, sometimes the changes by the users that are sometimes shown in the watchlist are not shown in other cases. (these are not 0 edits).

The conditions given:

*User: Aregakn
*Watchlist options (all shown): "Hide minor edits | Hide bots | Hide anonymous users | Hide logged-in users | Hide my edits"
*In user "My preferences" - "Watchlist":

Days to show in watchlist - 5
Number of changes to show in expanded watchlist - 250

Advanced options, expand watchlist to show all changes, not just the most recent - all boxes are unchecked (nothing to be hidden)!

*2 days' history of changes on a page watched by me:

Go to Special:Preferences, the "Wached list" tab and check the first version, which says something like "Extend the wached pages list to show all the made changes, not just the most recent ones" (I don't know the exact string, I'm using Romanian for interface).

However, there is still a problem: this option should be enabled by default on Wikipedia/commons. From what I can tell right now it isn't.

I have been intermittently experiencing this bug or similar for some months. An edit will just vanish from the watchlist for a while. It persists across logout/login, or trying a different browser.

I'll try to upload couple of screenshots as an example. The timestamps and the "watched" star status make it clear that the edit in the first shot is missing from the list in the second.

Also wondering whether this may be related to bugs:

Better shot of watchlist showing a later edit with the intermediate one still missing, so there can be no misunderstanding about the sequencing of the screenshots.

steelpillow, I think that's because you're using the "old" (default) watchlist view which normally only shows the last edit to the page (you can enabled the "enhanced" view in Preferences), but in this case the last edit was made by a bot and you chose to hide bots on your watchlist.

This is obviously not the best behavior, but at least it's explainable (and can be worked around). I think there was a separate bug filed for that, but can't find it right now.

steelpillow, you still didn't say if you enabled "extendedwatchlist" option as Strainu asked you: from the attachments it seems not; that would show the edits you're looking for. Enhanced RC wouldn't necessarily help by itself (unless bug 51022 is fixed, that is) but is recommended.

Anyway, attachment 15543 confirms this is bug 9790: top page edit is by AnomieBot, you have bot edits hidden, no edit is shown.

  • This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 9790 ***

That's spot on, thank you. It never occurred to me that a bot edit would mask an otherwise visible edit. Thank you.
