Symmetrical links between wikipedia pages

Proposal:

There should be a possibility to create symmetrical links between
wikipedia,wiktionary etc. pages.

Currently it is possible to create link and use "what links to this
page", but this is not what i mean.

I want to add link "This is a synonym of.." or "This is the opposite
of". When I add this kind of link it should appare on both pages.
Currently I have to add this to both pages!.

Later it would be possible to query all synonyms.

Also translation should be similar symmetrical link. When a translation
from english to french is added it should appear on the french word
page. (in wiktionary).
Then it would be possible to query all translations and all
SYNONYM TRANSLATIONS which is currently not possible.

Also when english to german translation is not available but
english to french and french to german are then it can be used.

If somebody don't want to see this it can be turned off and only
direct translations used, but what is the point of having dictionaries
in many languages if they are not integrated in any way....

Keywords: symmetrical, translation, relations, links

When a page with many headings is being discussed on its Talk: page, I have
manually arranged symetrical links between the two pages heading by heading
(thus ensuring that the same headings appear on both). On the main page each
section ends with both a link to the Talk page called "See discussion." and a
Back-to-top convenience link. On the Talk page the back link is called "See
current content." This makes it much easier to see what has been discussed about
each section of the page.

It would be delightful if making both kinds of links were easier. Even better
would be if in addition to an [edit] option per section there were a [discuss]
option per section. It could, in a truly superior system, create the appropriate
heading and both symetrical links. Then one would know IF something was
discussed BY the presence of the extra link from the main page.

The Back-to-ToC link could appear solely in the place where the [edit] buttons
are, and only if there is room there.

Fully agree. Currently Wikipedia has two quite different entries for Bishop's
Hull (village in Somerset) one with and one without the apostrophe. The
potential for erroneous information due to the 'wrong' page being referenced.

Semantic MediaWiki may be able to help here, although it can be quite cumbersome to use (and tends to bog down MediaWiki by causing a lot more server/database calls).

This is similar to bug 11423.

Just a bump: this is a great future target for WikiData. There should be a collector bug somewhere including all of these; perhaps a search for "semantic mediawiki" will turn up a few gross of them.

Is anyone willing to clarify the scope of this bug? As far as I can see there are four separate issues here (two in comment 0, and one each in comments 1 and 2). It's not really clear what is being asked for here.

I fully agree. CCing Andre seeking his advice. This report is almost 10 yeas old, and still it is unclear to see what needs to be done to resolve it.

CCing Lydia for the latest status on linking equivalent Wikipedia - Wiktionary pages through Wikidata, and for the Wikidata plans with Wiktionary in general. Does / Will Wikidata allow to define synonyms and antonyms as properties? Linlks to the wiki pages with information about current and future plans are welcome.

Wikidata support for Wiktionary is at least another year away. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Wiktionary has some info.

The summary is Wikipedia-specific; the request has nothing to do with MediaWiki core AFAICS. This is currently possible in Wikibase (e.g. Wikidata) and SemanticMediaWiki; as for covering all dictionary terms, see the plan for Wiktionary linked above.

Finally, as for providing an interface to this information, I'd suggest to start with a Lua-powered template on a Wikipedia, which could generate automatic navigational links; tools or scripts querying Wikidata are also possible, while recommendation systems and Special:Search are probably not worth this specific effort. If you have a specific idea of what would be most useful and feasible, please file a separate report against the appropriate component, or propose on the appropriate wiki.
