Commons favicon broken on Safari & Chrome (Mac) // Also distorted on other browsers
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The commons favicon shows up as a blank file in both Safari & Chrome.
Additionally, the version which shows up in other browsers is not transparent & horizontally stretched.

See also http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Administrators%27_noticeboard#Favicon.

Could we maybe declare the favicon as proposed in bug https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17980 ? This would allow for a PNG with a proper alpha channel, while IE users would still see the normal one.

A working .ico

Here's a working ico. Could this get changed?

A smaller one

Here's another smaller one; it doesn't contain 64x64, though.

The favicon.ico file should be a 16x16 unanimated icon. It should be as light as possible. Actual icons are 300bytes to 1500bytes.
