CheckUser mass blocker unexpectedly blocks talk page access
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Currently checkuser's-massblock interface instructions says:

"Selected accounts will be blocked indefinitely, with autoblocking enabled and account creation disabled. IP addresses will be blocked for 1 week for IP users only and with account creation disabled."

I've noted that CheckUser mass-block interface currently disallows talk page editing too, but that is only noted on [[Special:IPBlockList]] and not on [[Special:Log/block]].

Example - blocked with the extension:

This seems not to be an expected behaviour.

Ideally the extension could be updated to have checkboxes to allow blocking email and talk page.

What options are wanted btw? I'm thinking three:
*Block anonymous users only
*Prevent account creation
*Allow this user to edit own talk page while blocked

Sounds good. I would also add "prevent the user from sending email". I understand that autoblock ("Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IP addresses they try to edit from") is set by default when blocking accounts, right?

Could we have customisable options? Ideally, the default block settings would be locked in (much as 'move' options mirror the 'edit' options for Page Protection unless specifically unlocked), but it would be great to be able to tweak the settings depending on the sockmaster at hand.

That aside, yes, those three options seem the most appropriate. You could also add "Allow this user to send e-mails while blocked", to account for the original scope of this bug.

This doesn't seem to be happening again. Reopen if you do encounter further issues. Regarding customizable block options please see bug 39213 and bug 16306.
