Cropped PDFs thumbnail broken
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: M8R-udfkkf

Description:
The thumbnails of the cropped pdf files in the commons cat http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:P60-238 are not thumb nailing correctly. When you click on the pdf, you see the correct cropped version, whereas the thumbnail shows where the crop was taken from.

If somebody has a workaround, please reply.

I originally posted this at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Vpt#PDF_Crop but couldn't get an answer so I'm assuming its a bug.

Changing component to PDFHandler, however it sounds more like an upstream issue with ghostscript.

If somebody has a workaround, please reply.

Obvious work around is not to use cropping. If you're after the images in the pdf (and if they're raster images) you can use the pdfimages program (usually part of xpdf package) if its vector i assume there is some other method of converting it.

PDF cropping is the only "lossless" way. Converting to SVG isn't reliable and exporting as image loses the vector data.
