Change interwiki name of language kbd to Адыгэбзэ
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Kabardian Wikipedia (kbd.wikipedia.org) was opened and interwiki links are starting to appear in foreign Wikipedias. The current language name in the sidebar is "къэбэрдеибзэ/qabardjajəbza". It must be changed to "Къэбэрдеибзэ / Qabardjajəbza". Without the space the text is cut off and the first letters must be capitalized.

I'm terribly sorry about bugging this again. The name as requested in Bug 28003 is actually Адыгэбзэ. The Wikipedia is Cyrillic and the Latin alphabet is not used for this language, and according to a dictionary i have, the name Адыгэбзэ is correct.

Just to verify, would this be correct:

kdb and kbd-cyrl must be the same: 'Адыгэбзэ'.

Адыгэбзэ sounds like Adygean, no?

Funny stuff: 2 years ago it was called къэбэрдеибзэ / qabardjajəbza in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kabardian_language&oldid=309030096 , now it's адыгэбзэ / adəgăbză.

Of course it does. The two languages are very close, but ISO has two codes for them - kbd and ady. In both languages the word адыгэбзэ is the name of the language (i checked in the dictionary by B. M. Kardanov, 1957). I spoke to several Circassians about this, among them the employees of the Circassian Heritage Center in Kfar-Kama in Israel, and they all preferred the name адыгэбзэ.

Following a live conversation with Amir, I am tagging this for bugsmash (Für die Berlin Hackaton 2011).

What is still to be done here?

In the live Wikipedia it's still called "Къэбэрдеибзэ / Qabardjajəbza". It should be called "Адыгэбзэ".

Probably needs backporting to WMF deployment branch

'kbd' => 'Къэбэрдеибзэ / Qabardjajəbza', # Kabardian (multiple scripts - defaults to Cyrillic)
'kbd-cyrl' => 'къэбэрдеибзэ', # Kabardian (Cyrillic)

It needs changing on trunk first then...

Trunk done in r94068, merged in r94069, and pushed to site.
