Account creation project: text for new user page is not submitted by wizard
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I created a new test account on en.wikipedia.org User:Stink New User and was given the opportunity to type in some text to be added to my user page.

Surprisingly, when I submitted the form, I was taken to an edit preview on the user page.... with the original sample text instead of the text I wrote!

creation action URL including campaign ID:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&action=submitlogin&type=signup&returnto=Main_Page&campaign=ACP1

Text I wrote, replacing the default sample text:

Hi, I'm a fake test account created by User:Brion VIBBER. Occasionally I will log in on this and perform actions for testing purposes, with no administrative priveleges, a small edit count, etc.

My work should generally be either harmless or legitimate edits, so please treat me as if I were any other newbie. Thanks! --|brion

Text visible in the edit box:

<!-- BELOW IS THE TEXT ABOUT YOU. YOU CAN CHANGE IT COMPLETELY OR IN PARTS AND THEN COME BACK TO IT. AFTER YOU ARE DONE, SCROLL DOWN A BIT FURTHER AND CLICK "SAVE PAGE".-->New user bar
Replace this example text below with information about you:

Hello, my background is in biology, with a main interest in snakes.

I speak English and French. In my off-time, I listen to a lot of music, and I have discovered that Wikipedia is a very good source for information in that department. Hopefully I can help make it even better.

<!-- NOW, CLICK THE "SAVE PAGE" BUTTON. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VE JUST MADE YOUR FIRST EDIT TO WIKIPEDIA. -->

Pasting the text manually into the edit box of course resolves this. ;)

Brion: Should this be under "MediaWiki/User login" instead?
Not sure why this is under "extensions/[other]".

I guess it belongs/belonged to the extension used to implement the account creation project wizard thing. I'm not super familiar with it...

This bug may be invalid now. I believe this experiment is dead and gone.
