1 SMW and recognized that when going through Special:Browse and
looking into the detail mode with Special:SearchByProperty on
categories the value field is copied into the property field and the
value field is left empty.

This is indeed a bug. In older versions of SMW the categories got listed after the properties, and they did not have a link to SearchByProperty. My guess is that something broke the special handling of categories.
