Currently browsing https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki while logged on, I see a "select font" menu next to the user links at the top of the page. When clicked, this menu gives me the following:
I think this menu simply shouldn't appear at all (don't show "select font") if it's not going to offer a real option. It seems like useless UI clutter.

I also see this on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:ParserFunctions but not on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Tracking_categories.
Testing by edit/previewing the page, and it is the Language box (currently missing on the Help:Tracking_categories page) that is causing it to appear and a similar thing is happening on the page you mention.
This is expected behaviour. If lang tags are present for WebFonts supported languages, the UI will be present. Should be closed WORKSFORME.

It has already loaded some fonts for you, so you can disable it temporarily. For now there is no UI for selecting fonts for each individual language that happen to be in the page, just ui/content.
The UI is something that needs to be worked out.
Open http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:WebFonts/or (it loads oriya webfonts, but doesnt show up oriya fonts on the menu since the wiki's base language is english). I click Reset option, oriya goes of to squares, there is no way for me to get oriya except to reload the page.

I'm not sure what fonts I have installed that would support Oriya, but when I hit "reset", there is definitely a change, but Oriya characters do not return to squares.
I reopen the bug.
Please mark it RESO FIXED only when your Gerrit patch will be merged in the source.

I'm uploading a screenshot of the current menu I see at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki while logged out.
This menu still feels very stupid to me. The menu text reads "Select font," but there are no fonts to select. I also find the "Reset" checkbox confusing. How is a user supposed to understand what is being reset?
I'm re-opening this bug for further consideration. I don't believe the current user interface is satisfactory.
