Enable Kannada Transliteration by default
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Author: mgharish

Description:
Since new users won't be knowing that there is a built-in transliteration system, please set "Kannada Transliteration" as the default typing in KN:WP.

PS: Kannada Transliteration and not Kannada itrans, because Kannada Transliteration was used in KN:WP before Narayam was installed.

As majority of Kannada editor community are new to wiki, it will significantly discourage them if they miss to read notice about transliteration.
As chances of typing English alphabets in fields of kannada wiki is considerably less, we must have kannada transliteration enabled by default.
This is critical at the present situation of growing community to encourage new editors.

It still shouldn't be critical

Could you please explain why it should not be?

Because it's not something broken. It's an enhancement to have it enabled

Though, having it highest/critical isn't going to make it be done any quicker, so keep changing it if you want

$wgNarayamEnabledByDefault = true;

for knwiki needs to be set is what the community is asking for.

This is scheduled for next Monday.

Lowering priority -- we do use the priority field, but "Highest" isn't appropriate for this and, besides, Niklas has already given you a date.

Even after Ctrl+F5 I still see that the transliteration is disabled by default. Does it need any other settings?

Due how to resource loader works, it takes a while for the change to take effect. You can try clearing your cache. I tested that it works for me.

Works for me. Also, It might be because it could come from your browser cookie where it might have got stored as disabled.
