Many new users are unable to register on Kn and other Indic language wiki's due to Narayam. Please turn this feature off by default. Its a very important and critical issue.
We recently started outreach activities and hearing complaints about not being able to type in english during registration. For those who can't reach us, might not turn back to wiki. Quick action would be much appreciated.

Extension preference which is on Kannada Wiki needs to changed. By default the language on Narayam is set to Kannada kn-In it has to be turned off.

Santhosh, the user registering freshly on Kn wiki see Kannada characters. Most people want to register the username in English. Can we turn this feature off for those who're on registration page atleast.
I hope you know that pressing control+m change the input method to English. or The icon on the top of page that looks like pen offers an option to disable it or select another language(see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Narayam). Was it not at all obvious or difficult to figure out to the extent that people not able to register in English user name at all? If so, this should be a serious input to the UI design of the tool.
This is due to bug 34591 which asked to enable it by default. More serious
thing might be people might not know how to enter the captcha text, even if
they are okay with usernames in Kannada and hence shying away from signups.
Account creation is done by newbies, whom we cant expect to notice the Narayam
menu / help. Adding a note on

disabling narayam might help.
kn.wiki can discuss if Narayam should be enabled by default not and update here
