Open, MediumPublicFeature

Description

Author: shijualex

Description:
When we conducted Wiki workshop in Punjab recently for Punjabi Wikipedia new users found it difficult to work with the schemes integrated in Punjabi Narayam.

One of the main request from audience is to make the Phonetic keymap in Punjabi to work same like the Phonetic keymap of ibus (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/I18N/Indic/PunjabiKeyboardLayouts#Phonetic_Keyboard_Layout) which is available in Ubuntu.

This bug is to update the existing Phonetic keymap of Narayam to function like the Phonetic typing solution of ibus.

Since this will have to be taken up within jQuery.ime now, I am moving this request to the UniversalLanguageSelector component. Thanks.

Is there anything that can be done to get an update on this? At the moment, I find myself switching between input options for Gurmukhi because of problems with each of them.

As far as I can see, this one mostly works as the layout on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/I18N/Indic/PunjabiKeyboardLayouts#Phonetic_Keyboard_Layout , except \, which is not translating to . Am I correct?

Actually no, sorry, I found a few more issues:

  • | is supposed to produce a danda , but it produces a usual pipe. (The full stop produces a danda.)
  • . (full stop) is supposed to produce a

Oh, and {} produce (). That's probably someone wanted to make () easy to type while Shift-9 and Shift-0 produce ੯੦.
