I'm unsure that we want this, but it's doable.

At the least, an optional parameter to set it up might be nice... probably needs support in core (and possibly MobileFrontend) providing a config variable, which can be set with the application ID.

(Note there's a similar system for discovery of Windows 8 Metro-style apps, which'll want a similar but separate bug entry.)

Hmm, passing the current page as an argument might be slightly tricky... probably needs URL protocol support for opening or something.

...presumably the installation link for the Wikipedia app.

I'm not sure we want this although I'm interested to see this as I'm tired off those annoying alerts on websites telling me there is an app I don't care about.

I personally think we should only think about doing this if we believe that we can drive a user to make edits via the app that they cannot do on the mobile site (e.g. we want to make use of their camera for uploads when their browser doesn't support it). Currently the app doesn't allow edits and I'd rather be increasing our traffic to the mobile site.

Moving this from app to MobileFrontend, since that's where the banners would have to go.

Maybe we will do this one day - it's an interesting suggestion but driving traffic to apps where you can't edit doesn't seem like the best strategic move right now.
