Update Lekhani typing scheme for Narayam based on jquery.ime changes
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Hi all,

Along with the current Narayam Inscript and transliteration there is a need of a phonetic typing scheme. Most of the users are new to the transliteration tool and are beig forced to use it because of the lack of a phonetic tool. In addition to that users who are using Ubuntu and Mac are quite comfortable with the typing tools of their operating system and fail to type using the existing tools. The proposed tool "Lekhani" is based on the phonetic tools of both Lunux and Mac. The documentation needed for this has been documented at: http://or.wikipedia.org/s/adl . Please help us set this scheme.

Thanks
Subhashish Panigrahi

Patches are welcome. We are currently working on our new input method system jquery.ime (https://github.com/wikimedia/jquery.ime). If the patch is for that library it would be great.

If community is not able to provide patch, it might delayed till it comes in our priorities.

This is one good candidate for working at Banglore Dev Camp ( https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bangalore_DevCamp_November_2012/Topics )

Not sure of the patch. I have pointed to the documentation which is already made on the typing scheme page (http://or.wikipedia.org/s/adl). I am adding some of the Bangalore based Odia wikipedians who can help for this. But please show some light on how the patch is created, I don't see anyone in the community can support for the same, we can give the input and output scheme. Subha

Hey Runa, I had corrected some of the mistakes based on the Phonetic keymap used in Fedora, here it is (https://github.com/psubhashish/jquery.ime/blob/master/rules/or/or-lekhani.js). Yuvi had merged it with the wikimedia/jquery.ime/blob/master/rules/or/or-lekhani.js. But, I don't see the changes. Could you please merge this (https://github.com/psubhashish/jquery.ime/blob/master/rules/or/or-lekhani.js) to the wikimedia/jquery.ime?

Hi, Could you please update the status of the merging? There are multiple issues with the existing jquery which I corrected in the fork (https://github.com/psubhashish/jquery.ime/blob/master/rules/or/or-lekhani.js). Thanks

Now: Odia Lekhani (should be Phonetic)
Now: ଈନସକରିପତ (Should be Inscript)
Now: ହୋନେତିକ (Should be Phonetic)
Now: ଈନସକରିପତ2 (Should be Inscript2)

Any update for the corrections in Narayam?

Please Update, these below Odia Spellings are gibberish, incorrect.
Change them to English, I don't know about the second Phonetic, Any idea what that is? I don't think it is needed.

I can't find them in translatewiki.net. So I guess these are need to be changed in jQuery.ime, js page. Right?

See this attachment http://bug-attachment.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=11868 and these issues were mentioned in this bug too, https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45605

These should be in this order:
Transliteration
Phonetic
Inscript
Inscript2

Phonetic is the Odia Lekhani.
Thanks.

Ansuman already has written the correct order and names to be displayed for ULS for the layouts. Please update.

When this issue was moved from component Narayam to ULS, something went wrong. Many recent comments have nothing to domwith the original request.

I'm closing this issue, solely based on the summary and initial request, as WONTFIX, as Narayam will not be updated to reflect changes in jquery.ime.

To prevent future discussion, I do wish to comment on comment 8: names of keyboard mapping will be untranslatable and in the language and script the target keyboard mapping is for. So for example for Oriya, the key mapping names will be in Oriya scrip, and not in Latin script English, as I think may be requested.

Please open single item issues for remaining enhancement request and for bugs. Thanks for understanding and apologies for not realizing sooner that this issue has been suffering from major scope creep.
