To use input methods you need to know the mapping, and there is not easy way to find it. This affects adoption for first-time users.
It can be solved by implementing some of the following aids:
- Add a "more information" link next to each input method (the link can be more explicit: "see mapping", "how to use this", etc.). See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File:ULS_Input_settings.png
- For the IME menu, include an option to "show/hide keyboard" (or show/hide mapping) next to the input method that provides an overlay with the appropriate mapping (if it is interactive, it is a keyboard, but it may be just informative). See the Bolnagri option at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File:ULS_Editing.png
- Show a tooltip when input method is changed with a description of the input method and a "learn how" link. See the tooltip at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File:ULS_Editing.png
