Strange thumbnail issue after a re-upload
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

Probable thumbnail bug demonstrated on test.wikipedia.org, 2013-01-10

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jacob_J._Lew_signature.png had a white background. So I edited the file and uploaded a new version with a transparent background. But now the image seems to be very wonky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tim_Starling/Possible_thumbnail_bug.

At certain sizes (notably the size that was currently being used in an article, 128px), the image has a transparent background. With no size specified or with some arbitrary sizes, the image has a white background. Maybe a partial upload or something? Dunno. I'll attach a screenshot as well.

Version: wmf-deployment
Severity: normal

Both on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tim_Starling/Possible_thumbnail_bug and http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Possible_thumbnail_bug
I always get a red background (Firefox 17.0.1, Opera 12.02, Google Chrome 23.0.1271.97, no matter if logged in or not).

Cannot reproduce I guess.

My suspicion is that thumbnail purging is either very slow or broken.

Wikimedia now uses Thumbor as its thumbnail generator, and none of the linked thumbnails are currently broken.
