Version 1.8.0 already requires PHP 5.3+
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

As it was pointed out [1] version 1.8.0 already requires PHP 5.3+ which should not be the case. Since SMW 1.8+ is keeping PHP 5.2 compatibility this extensions should do it, too. Additionally this would make this extension compatible with MW 1.19 LTS in an PHP 5.2 environment.

Changing priority to High major since this should be done for the SRF 1.8.1 release

If this is a problem for a certain user group, I would expect those users to supply a patch set that can be reviewed on gerrit otherwise marking this issue as high will not automatically assign developer resources.

Personally, I will not work on this task other than reviewing gerrit since SMW/SRF 1.9 is already in the making.

@LTS
Talking about LTS (either SMW or MW) without efforts to supply patch sets doesn't make it necessarily an attainable goal.

The problem here is that we currently state that SWM 1.8 is meant to work with PHP 5.2+ Since SRF is an extension used on about 80 to 90% of the wikis using SMW it may not really make sense not to support PHP 5.2+

Another way out here is to be honest and change the docu stating what PHP 5.2 is not supported by SWM 1.8. I can live with it an probably a lot of others, too. Still there should be some kind of decision on this, which I obviously cannot make.
