Failure to install Math Extension / TeX: dvipng issue?

Description:
I have installed all the Math component, then used macport to install latex, dvipng, gs, convert. I compiled texvc. The components all individually work, but with I have a sandbox entry <math>$a$</math> I get

"Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation of latex and dvipng (or dvips + gs + convert)): $a$"

Given this, I suspect dvipng is in the wrong spot.

"http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual_talk:Running_MediaWiki_on_Mac_OS_X#Mathematics" may be out of date?

Please provide some data, such as Math version, MediaWiki version, PHP and Database version.

Not sure it's related to your problem, but I also had some issues to create the images and it turned out that I needed to create a directory with writing permission in order to store the images. I updated the documentation here:
