Traffic/Dump stats: migrate code for page view reports to separate module
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Erik Zachte Jul 23, 2012:
overall wikistats scripts are too complicated to maintain by 3rd party

aggregating from Domas’ hourly counts count is a separate and quite maintainable script already

page view reporting could be preserved easier when separate code

Erik Zachte March 16, 2012:
And be back-end to new page view report by Stefan

Earlier mentioned new report by Stefan runs on this code as well since April 2013 year. See http://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/TablesPageViewsMonthlySquidsMobile.htm

These page view stats reports are the only place where dump scripts are used to also visualize page view data (either from dammit.lt or squid logs).

Whether the code for these reports will be maintained in a HADOOP era remains to be seen. If yes, the same argument still applies to isolate code from the collosal Wikistats repository and make this a separate reporting tool.

Closing this ticket as Wikistats version 1 is dead per https://stats.wikimedia.org/Wikistats_1_announcements.htm . In case this ticket is still a valid bug report or feature request for Wikistats 2, then please reopen. Thanks a lot!
