These used to be there and were not kept up to date, nor terribly useful. There are the git hashes at least.

Git hashes are not available for extensions. Providing hashes would be preferable to version numbers, actually.
Please clarify what u mean by "There are the git hashes", cos I do not see this anywhere.
Submodule version can almost be determined from the master repo treeish, but I've noticed that extensions are sometimes scap'ed manually... and this is definitely a case we want to expose in Special:Version.
