Why a same MW in IE & Chrome ( may be include other Browsers) have different results? And these "differences" would materially affect user experience.

Could you elaborate what the "JS issue" is, and is there any output in a JavaScript error console (if IE has that)?
Is it just shown "badly", or is functionality affected?

Thank for your reply.

I am not an IT technician, for me, if the JS failed to run on the IE, it is a functional defect, e.g.

  • batch replacement failed to displayed in the edit box ,
  • Search Options box can not be displayed in the Advanced Search Page(check "All/None",
  • abnormal display results ( such as screenshots ), and so on.

In short, I guess that MW does not support the latest IE10, because my MW was able to normal use on the the old version of IE or its compatibility view.

Thanks again.

This sounds like a different issue, bug 23992 - cannot say though without more specific information.

  • Search Options box can not be displayed in the Advanced Search Page(check

"All/None",

Please provide steps to reproduce (click by click and an URL where to test - is this about Wikimedia wikis? Your own MediaWiki installation? If the latter, which MediaWiki version? Also see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug

  • abnormal display results ( such as screenshots ), and so on.

Please describe in words what exactly is "abnormal" for your JS screenshot.

"abnormal" 1:

http://giprs.org/en/index.php?title=Special:Search&search=&fulltext=Search&profile=advanced&redirs=1

This is Advanced Search Page on our wiki, you can check it on the lasted IE 10,

Search Option, "All/None" failed to displayed, but it's ok if you change to IE compatibility view.

"abnormal" 3: you can check the 3rd attachment [JS issue on IE 10 (3.64 KB, image/png) ]

on "Preferences" setting page, JS failed to run

The issues which mentioned above, it may be related to IE compatibility or JS, but it need expert confirmed.

Thanks!

Cannot reproduce the Preferences issue shown in http://bug-attachment.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=12380 with IE10.0, Windows8, 1024x768 on browserstack.com.

Please provide Javascript error output when the Preferences problem happens.

My IE on Win8,64bit,1920*1080, switch IE compatibility view, the problem still exists.

Would love to see a second person who has Windows 8 and IE 10 if this can be reproduced (because I cannot), and if this is still a problem.

The wiki at http://giprs.org/en/index.php/Main_Page now uses MediaWiki 1.21 which has been unsupported since 2014 (3 years ago). Even in Chrome there are numerous JavaScript issues, some due to running old MediaWiki on new browsers which no longer work the same way, and also possibly due to site scripts and/or extensions interfering.

Feel free to re-open if you can reproduce this on IE10 (or any other browser) with MediaWiki 1.29 or higher.
