Support EXIF Tags Display and EXIF Tag Deletion
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

It would be nice to be able to view the underlying EXIF data of an image, and to have an option to delete specific tags. This is particularly useful if the user wants to remove geodata. There may be other areas for UX on notifying the user about geodata and that there is such a feature available once it's in place.

I think we want a geodata-specific UI; exposing other data could be nice but shouldn't overwhelm the user.

Yeah, I agree the geodata is tops. I think for other metadata it could be something in the menu or on long press, although that may be too much, too. For any matter, choice on geodata privacy, as well as, secondarily, the ability to add geodata where wanted seems pretty cool.

In the interest of 'keep things as simple as possible', I propose a Settings option to 'Strip GeoData', that the user can set.

A setting for the default is probably useful, but I'd want to be specifically prompted (but be able to ignore it) while on the upload train. Nobody wants to accidentally upload a photo of a kitchen implement and never realize that it's got the equivalent of their home address in it.

Plus, if you don't have the camera set to include geodata by default, being able to *add* the current coordinates at upload time would be handy.

Oh truly agreed. My major reluctance here is how to let people add co-ord. We could decide to use GMaps embedded in our app (which comes with its own set of problems), find one of the OSM Renderers for Android (need to look around) or stick leaflet in a Webview (eeek!) to get proper maps there.

As the Mobile Apps Team is focussing on the new, native Wikipedia app, the Commons app is no longer being maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation. I am WONTFIXing all open Commons app bugs to reflect that we will not be spending time fixing them.
