I haven't been able to, but then this kind of thing is pretty difficult to duplicate (unless you want me spending 40 minutes basically doing my damnedest to break linking and looking at what happens each time).

Not the same issue; user clearly managed to add a linked space after the italics, which is a UX issue we need to fix generally.
