Hi Mahitgar, what is the problem that you see, how to reproduce the problem (steps to reproduce), and what is the expected outcome? Please see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug

*To understand further the need for above request,please do refer to survey
data and analysis provided at

I won't read through that whole thread, please summarize here and make sure to file only one request per bug report. Thanks!

Thanks i will elaborate as below

*Brieffest summary above mentioned study report thread is "
For people with technical background enabling something and selecting something are very easy steps but not necessarily for a good majiority newbies, that what my report suggest, that they still fails to understand the nitty gritties involved in enabling and selecting an input method

Newbies visiting non-roman script wikis and Marathi language wikipedia in particular are intrested in learning how to type/input their mother tounge script,but many of them still fail to understand that some thing called input method needs to be activated some where and they need to select one of the option.So effort in bug no 51344 and 51345 is to provide input method as default for the newbies for their practicing the requisite skill without having any haassle to enable something and select something.

So main purpose of all the bugs filed by me is 'Xs4all' and fullfilling the real main purpose of ULS

*Please see at for the help page to practice input method I created an input box at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help_talk:Extension:UniversalLanguageSelector/Input_methods/mr-transliteration

*In that input box current parameters are :

<inputbox>
type=create
width=57
placeholder=येथे टिचकी मारा,कोपऱ्यात चित्रातले चिन्ह येते,मग चिन्हावर टिचकी मारा व अक्षरांतरण पर्याय निवडा.(This translates "Please click here,in the corner a sign apears and then select input method अक्षरांतरण i.e. transliteration
buttonlabel=कोपऱ्यात चित्रातले चिन्ह येते,मग चिन्हावर टिचकी मारा व अक्षरांतरण पर्याय निवडा This button lable again reiterates above help staement in place holder
break=no
prefix=w:mr:विकिपीडिया:धूळपाटी/केवळ मराठी (सराव) This button takes to a special sand box (which again we are expecting to have default input method feature.
</inputbox>

::Although I have provided very descriptive information for users to practice my study suggests there is good improvement but still a good majiority fails to understand these nitty gritties of enabling and then selecting,(For question why one will need to read my detail report)

::So the purpose of this bug is to provide such parameters that will make available an input method as default for a given language

::So if this bug gets successfully fixed then my would be syntax for input method practicing inputbox would be some thing like following

<inputbox>
type=create (/Input method typing practice)
width=57
placeholder=येथे टिचकी मारा,कोपऱ्यात चित्रातले चिन्ह येते,मग चिन्हावर टिचकी मारा व अक्षरांतरण पर्याय निवडा.(This translates "Please click here,in the corner a sign apears and then select input method अक्षरांतरण i.e. transliteration
input-language-code=mr
input method ULS =अक्षरांतरण(or transliteration) (or inscript whichever method I want to choose)

buttonlabel=कोपऱ्यात चित्रातले चिन्ह येते,मग चिन्हावर टिचकी मारा व अक्षरांतरण पर्याय निवडा This button lable again reiterates above help staement in place holder
break=no
prefix=w:mr:विकिपीडिया:धूळपाटी/केवळ मराठी (सराव) This button takes to a special sand box (which again we are expecting to have default input method feature.
</inputbox>

*Where this will benefit

::If possible these input boxes can be incorporated along with virtual keyboard for practice

::These input boxes can be incorporated in help pages and relevant media wiki messages (if any)
::These input boxes will be usefull to language learning articles on wikiooks

  • Again why input boxes ?

::As I said can be usefull to wikibooks and relevant help pages

:: At bug 51344 to make a input method default for a help page you asked me to come up with community consensus.To provide a good help feature for 700 wikis atleast 700 intitative taking people will be needed and more than them to support them.An input box that makes inputmethod default can energy on this aspect.

::Thanks and warm regards

In general, structuring longer comments can be helpful. I'm still a bit confused, so it seems your proposal is to add:

(In reply to comment #2)

input-language-code=mr
input method ULS =अक्षरांतरण(or transliteration) (or inscript whichever
method I want to choose)

I don't understand yet how this would help fixing this problem:

Newbies visiting non-roman script wikis and Marathi language wikipedia in
particular are intrested in learning how to type/input their mother tounge
script,but many of them still fail to understand that some thing called input
method needs to be activated some where and they need to select one of the
option.

An input box that makes inputmethod default, can be added to concrned sandbox page and help/support pages wherever as admin I want to add.

I have addressed to you in another bug too,burgoining problem on my mind is "I have already presented figures at ULS talk page that 60% first time
editors of Marathi Wikipedia users still find it defficult and fail to
understand where exactly they need to enable Marathi language typing.Certainly
ULS is a great technical wonder but we need to accept the fact that on the
ground 60% that is the majority still does not understand where the entry is
from.

*'''methods are not very important but solutions are!''';alternatively you provide any solution that all Marathi new users on Marathi wikipedia start writing in Marathi.Any solution that serves the purpose is acceptable to me.

You may feel I am talking only about problems or language Marathi wikipedia, I am not admin on all other language wikis other wise I would have placed edit filters on all of them and provided with you more figures to support my hypothesis.

Still for one more example I suggest you to visit hindi language wikipedia edit filter [http://hi.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B6%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%B7:%E0%A4%A6%E0%A5%81%E0%A4%B0%E0%A5%81%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%AF%E0%A5%8B%E0%A4%97_%E0%A4%B2%E0%A5%89%E0%A4%97&wpSearchFilter=59 that stops creation of non-hindi article names] Filters can stop users writing in other language and or roman script that any way we are doing at local level.But we are looking forward to more holistic solutions that will help and accomodate provide access more prudently to users who fail in getting basic language input tools
