Description:
Referenced footnote not displayed correctly in VE

Re-checking - no re-numbering happens anymore. The discrepncy in display of such references in VE and Read mode(and Reference list) is described below(also see the attached screenshots):
On the empty page in VE

  1. The code

These lands comprised the lordship, or [[Barony of Egremont]].<ref name=Baronies115>Sanders ''English Baronies'' p. 115</ref>{{efn|This is sometimes referred to as the lordship of Coupland.<ref name=Barrow121>Barrow "Pattern of Lordship" ''Journal of Medieval History'' pp. 121–122</ref>}}

is displayed as
These lands comprised the lordship, or Barony of Egremont.[1][lower-alpha 1]

  1. Save and [lower-alpha 1] becomes [a]

These lands comprised the lordship, or Barony of Egremont.[1][a]

  1. The reference list is displayed without any reference to [a]
  1. ^Sanders English Baronies p. 115
  2. ^ Barrow "Pattern of Lordship" Journal of Medieval History pp. 121–122

Thank you for the bug report lunarjam.mcgahan@gmail.com.

Extracting the problem description out of the attachment:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Meschin

in VE

The footnote

This is sometimes referred to as the lordship of Coupland.[6]

becomes

This is sometimes referred to as the lordship of Coupland.[1]

The ref moves from position 6 to position 1.

All of the refs change from using lower alpha to using numbers

i.e.

a b c Keats-Rohan Domesday Descendants p. 601

becomes

x.1 x.2 x.3 Keats-Rohan Domesday Descendants p. 601

I believe the second aspect is bug 49346.

I havent seen an existing bug report for the references being re-ordered in VE.

The reordering aspect appears to be a side effect of the underlying problem in bug 53777.
