Note: the "supporting class page"

Those descriptions aren't particularly great - No categories or the commonly used https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Information template, and more importantly, no copyright information! Certainly migrating to using the Information template, adding a category or 2 and relevant licensing information should really be done before they are uploaded

Thanks for the quick reply Sam!

I had modeled this off the sample bug reports linked at: commons:Help:Server-side upload . I was inferring that simpler was better, and was planning to add the information you discuss manually. But if it's better to include it in the initial request, I am happy to do that.

(I'd like to get this dialed in, because there will be further sessions to upload; and I'd like to be able to provide clear instructions about how to proceed, so that others with less experience can take up this task.)

Anyway, here's info for the additional fields. Anything I'm missing? (I will likely refine and adjust categorization, so this component may change in future requests.)

(I'd like to get this dialed in, because there will be further sessions to

The preferred way would be to have the video files named as wanted, and to create a matching (same name, just replace the extension to ogv) .txt file with the description in it. A list of URLs to them would then suffice, meaning we can just grab them and then "upload" them all with minimal transformation.

There's not much benefit from compressing (gzip, 7zip etc) videos, but if you've got a lot of videos and descriptions, tar-ing (or similar) them together makes download and extraction simplier

So the text file should contain the full desired wiki text of the page, i.e. including all those other fields, categories, etc.? I think this will be a very workable approach for us, thank you for spelling it out. Also, when this is completed, I'll add a link to this page to the Commons page on server-side uploads. Hopefully your clear breakdown will be helpful to others taking this on in the future.

Reedy: Do you think that's something to cover on above wiki link?

It's already there, I had misunderstood it -- but I'm happy to rewrite the wiki page a bit for clarity. I'm waiting to get through this upload first so I have a more complete understanding of the process.

(Also, FYI I don't have direct control of the server the files are on -- which is why I didn't change the file name or add a text file this time around. Happy to do so in the future, though.)

Yeah, wikitext like you would create for the file if you were doing it yourself. Something like the following would be great:
