On Wikimedia wikis (both the 1.22wmf12 and 1.22wmf13 wikis) the git revision id doesn't show up on special:version (except for central auth)

Given that no one has done anything about this bug in six months, that's not exactly a high priority issue.

I think I talked with Reedy? about this a while back and he said the reason they don't show up is because the .git subdirectories aren't present.

Someone (Can't remember who) told me that they weren't being copied to make scap faster.

It's likely the use of submodules and/or the difference in disk layout between the staging area on tin and the deployed servers. See bug 53972 for more analysis of that issue. Marking as duplicate of newer issue that has better root cause analysis.
