VisualEditor: nowiki when trying to edit an external link in references
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

On de.WP, a user tried to replace an outdated link within an existing ref via VE and ran into a nowiki.

diff:

http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kin-dsa-dsa%21&diff=121506430&oldid=117367043

report:

http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Technik/Text/Edit/VisualEditor/Beta2013-07&oldid=121759646#nowiki_bei_unbeschriftetem_Link

I could reproduce that; the previous is showing it prior to saving, too.

  2. open the ref dialog for the last ref in the first paragraph of section 'Video'
  3. open link dialog for the first external link
  4. replace http://kinocenter.rsuh.ru/Dan2.htm with http://wayback.archive.org/web/20080603185657/http://kinocenter.rsuh.ru/Dan2.htm

Expected results:
Only the URL changes

Actual results:
<nowiki>[1]</nowiki> is inserted

Reproduced on a much smaller test case here:

I cannot reproduce this with the current version of the article, which has similar content.

When trying to edit the old version of the article I get a strange result: I don't see the external links in the reference editor at all.

I can confirm that I could previously reproduce and this is now fixed; not quite sure where or when.

don't see the external links in the reference editor at all.

Yeah; that's very odd. Have filed bug 71652.
