"Script may be busy" Firefox warning when uploading specific files to Commons
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

I encountered script errors when uploading two files, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Portrait_of_Jean-Louis_de_Lolme_from_Constitution_de_l%27Angleterre_%281789%29.jpg and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Title_page_of_Constitution_de_l%27Angleterre_%281789%29.jpg, to the Commons using the UploadWizard. I think it happened three times, and this was the last error message:

"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: https://bits.wikimedia.org/commons.wikimedia.org/load.php?debug=false&lang=en&modules=jquery%2Cmediawiki%2CSpinner%7Cjquery.triggerQueueCallback%2CloadingSpinner%2CmwEmbedUtil%7Cmw.MwEmbedSupport&only=scripts&skin=vector&version=20131126T023035Z:8"

However, clicking "Continue" each time resulted in the upload completing successfully. I am using Mozilla Firefox 25.0.1.

Cheers,
Jack

So, this is a notification that the script is taking a really long time to execute. We may have an infinite loop somewhere in the script.

Is there anything special about the files? Maybe they have more EXIF data than UW is used to or something.

Have you tried letting the scripts run? It may be that it's caching some information so it has to run slightly less each time, and on the third or fourth try it finally gets through. Try letting it complete, i.e. don't kill the javascript thread, and let me know if that helps.

The files were JPEGs created from a PDF. I'm not sure how I should test the script since the files have already been uploaded.

Just wanted to say that I am now using Firefox 26.0 and have not encountered any script errors when uploading files.

Reporter cannot reproduce the problem anymore, hence closing as WORKSFORME (sorry this did not receive attention earlier).
