VisualEditor: Cursor misplaced while editing. I click here, and it types over there.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Intention:
Copyedit a sentence. I clicked after the word "elbow" to add another phrase.

Actual Results:
It typed my words in the middle of a sentence four lines lower. The diff was correct, but did not include several of the last changes I made (e.g., adding paragraph breaks). Also, in cutting and pasting another paragraph, the ref's contents were removed.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Version: unspecified
Severity: normal

Screenshot of the article after encountering the problem, but before saving

Four places are marked in the image:

(1) I split the paragraph as shown here, but this line break did not get saved.

(2) I clicked above the '2' and started typing after "elbow". The next few words should have been "or a surgically implanted port". The words "or a sur" were visible on the screen at the time I saved, but did not appear in the diff.

(3) The highlighted (blue) spot is where VisualEditor tried to put part of these words. I have just 'undone' the addition of the text in the wrong paragraph.

(4) The first thing I did in this article was to cut text out of the ==Treatment== section and use it to create a separate ==Research== section. Ref #30 turned into [30] when I did this. In addition to losing the refs, it may have added line breaks; they do not appear in the original wikitext, but I had to remove several before saving.

The number of lines in between where I clicked to type at (2) and where it tried to put the words at (3) is approximately the same number of lines as what was moved to (4).
