Flow: Stop using topic bar to collapse a thread
Open, MediumPublicFeature

Description

The header being the button to collapse a thread is fundamentally unintuitive. It doesn't look like a button, it isn't treated like a button, and it means mis-clicks (and there's a biiiig area to misclick in) collapses whatever you were doing.

My proposed solution to resolve the inconsistency would fix this bug, too.

Actually the topic bar[*] is a button, it has mw-ui-button class and gets the beveled bottom on hover. It is assigned a background-color that prevents the usual button darkening on click; I think that's a bug in the CSS, I filed bug 58800.

I'm not disagreeing that about the substance of this bug. My 2 cents is we could reuse the collapse-expand indicator buttons that are already present in Vector's left-hand collapsible navigation. As I recall the designer's concern was to avoid having icons in a left-hand margin as well as a right-hand margin with the flag and permalink.

  • In the official Flow nomenclature the "header" is the area with gray text at the top of the page, though as we've discussed the topic bar resembles a mail message header.

Hope this helps.
