Description

Happy new year, system admins.
Per [[bugzilla:29064]], [[bugzilla:36571]] and [[bugzilla:48026]], I think it's a good time to close wikimania2013wiki. We all no longer needed to edit it. Thx.

Change 104726 had a related patch set uploaded by Odder:
Close wikimania2013 wiki

Are we not going to wait for the videos to be uploaded so that they can then be linked to the appropriate presentations? If the videos are uploaded, it would be a lot of work for stewards to do?

If there is still things to be done, please wait.

@Jeromy, @Deryck: Should the wiki be closed now, or is there anything that still needs to be done on–wiki (in which case I'll abandon my patch)?

Thanks THO for putting a hold onto this request. Yes we are still using wm2013: for follow-up work of Wikimania 2013. Indeed, we are adding links to submission pages; we are also using the wiki to coordinate video upload work, so there have been hundreds of edits to the wiki in the last few weeks!

When all the videos are uploaded and linked, I think we should leave the wiki open for another few months so that presenters can further edit their submission and user pages. I feel that wm2011: and wm2012: were closed too soon.

I'd suggest that we leave wm2013: open until a few days before Wikimania 2014.

Can the wiki now be closed? Seems like the videos are uploaded…

If not, it might be worth turning off account creations, and prevent edits by IPs.

To me it would seem that there would be a benefit in undertaking such measures at a point after a wikimania to minimise the crud.

The other Wikimania wikis appeared to normally have their closures sometime around early May. Why don't we have future requests to close Wikimania wikis postponed until around that time, rather than jumping immediately at the beginning of the New Year?

What's the current status of this request?

Why? Because they just become spambot targets with nothing useful happening. So our plan is to close then when they are complete, not based on a mark on a calendar.

a calendar.

Even so, we would still require community consensus before pushing for this configuration change. Whether or not they can be considered "complete" is ultimately a community decision, and currently that community seems averse to somewhat premature requests for closure. That's why it's better to hold off these reports until an arbitrary date is set, or better yet, until community consensus is actually demonstrated, to reduce the bugspam we routinely get.

Hello! The WM2013 local team has discussed this and decided that we'd recommend to close wikimania2013wiki on 4 June 2014. If that's okay with the devs we'll post notices on mail:wikimania-l and on [[wm2013:main page]] about the proposed closure.

The patch has now been deployed to the production cluster by Nik (thanks!).

The wiki can now be edited by stewards only.

Which I have just done to update the sitenotice. It now reads ...

This wiki was closed on 4 June 2014.
