"Jump to: navigation, search" added to clipboard when selecting a title
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

  1. Go to a regular page e.g. [[mw:Download_from_Git]].
  2. Select the text by placing the mouse pointer at the beginning of the title, clicking, and moving the pointer to the line below.
  3. Copy and paste elsewhere.

EXPECTED

The text pasted is

Download from Git

ACTUALLY

The text pasted is

Download from Git
Jump to: navigation, search

Now, at some point I realized that this only happens when you select until the "next line" (which doesn't exist, and therefore the text selection gives no visual clue). If you select from left to right only then you can copy&paste the title cleanly.

I guess there is an invisible element somewhere? Anyway, a minor problem but annoying until you figure out what is going on.

"Jump to" links should probably have 'user-select: none' set, like .mw-editsection and some other stuff.

Change 105133 had a related patch set uploaded by Jackmcbarn:
Prevent selection of "Jump to" text

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/105133

Jack's patch should fix the issue for all major browsers.

I just want to say thank you for the quickest fix to a MediaWiki Core bug report I have ever filed!
