Statements for labels (for use with gender and plural)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Author: Gerard.meijssen

Description:
When a "human" is an actor, the correct label to be used is different depending of the "sex / gender" of the person. When it is possible to indicate labels for use with gender, it is possible to improve on the presentation of data.

Support for plural would also be worthwhile.

As you know, MediaWiki does support both gender and plural in its i18n. At some stage this functionality is needed anyway. It might as well be now because there is an application for it.

This is just one use-case ... one that has an immediate application. There are others like indicating deprecation of names for the same organisation ...

This kind of thin would best be done using an entity representing a linguistic object in detail, and associating it with the data item. That is, a data item could be associated with a sense of one or more lexeme as described at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Wiktionary

This proposal as I read it does NOT tie in with the labels used in Wikidata. It is imho one of its fallacies.

We'll not be doing that before Wiktionary integration. It would introduce too much complexity for now. Sorry.
